Fauci Forecasts Unlikely Federal Mask Mandates Despite COVID Cases Uptick

In the latest update, former White House chief medical advisor, Anthony Fauci, addressed concerns about the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and the potential for federal mask mandates. Fauci shared his perspective on ABC’s “This Week,” stating that due to widespread immunity from vaccines and previous infections, the risk of a significant surge in cases and hospitalizations is low.

Fauci further emphasized, “The chances of this being an overwhelming rush of cases or hospitalizations are probably low. So, I think none of us in the public health field are predicting a tsunami of hospitalizations and deaths as we witnessed a year ago.”

Although Fauci acknowledged the possibility of a substantial uptick in cases, he expressed doubt regarding the necessity of federal mask mandates. Instead, he imagines that recommendations for mask usage might be issued in specific circumstances and crowded indoor settings. However, he firmly stated, “Certainly not federal mandates. I would be extremely surprised if we would see that.”

In a previous statement, Fauci expressed concerns about people disregarding any potential recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding masking. He hopes that if the volume of cases increases to a concerning level, individuals will take the CDC’s recommendations seriously and prioritize the safety of themselves and their families.
