Metro buses on lines 70 and 258 will be rerouted in East Los Angeles on Sunday to accommodate the 77th annual Mexican Independence Day Parade and Festival, according to officials from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Both bus routes intersect with the parade route, which commences at 10 a.m. at the junction of César Chávez and Mednick avenues.
The reroutes will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on César Chávez Avenue between Mednick and Record avenues.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead or consider alternative travel options.
The parade is renowned as the oldest and largest Mexican heritage parade in the nation.
This year’s grand marshal will be Mark Consuelos, an actor and co-host of TV’s “LIVE with Kelly and Mark.”
The theme of the parade is “Empowering Latina Women In Our Community” and it will be broadcasted and livestreamed on ABC7.
The parade will also pay tribute to the legacy of the late L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina, who passed away from cancer on May 14.
The Grand Festival will follow the parade on Mednik Avenue, situated between East César Chávez Avenue and First Street.
