BMW enthüllt neues Elektrofahrzeug-Konzept

BMW CEO says Vision Neue Klasse concept car represents the dawn of a new era of innovation

German automaker BMW unveiled its highly anticipated electric concept car, the “Vision Neue Klasse,” signaling a new era of innovation for the company.

This latest design from BMW showcases the platform that will serve as the foundation for its next generation of electric vehicles, with the first models expected to enter production in 2025 under the Neue Klasse architecture.

The new lineup of electric vehicles will feature BMW’s sixth-generation battery cells, promising improved charging speed and increased range of up to 30% on the Neue Klasse platform. These advancements contribute to a overall vehicle efficiency boost of up to 25%.

“The BMW Vision Neue Klasse embodies our commitment to electric and digital innovation, as well as our dedication to sustainability,” said BMW CEO Oliver Zipse in an interview with CNBC’s Arabile Gumede. “In just two years, these cars will be on the road, propelling BMW into a new era of innovation and sustainability. That’s the purpose of our show at the IAA.”

The public debut of the Vision Neue Klasse is scheduled to take place at the IAA motor show in Munich, where BMW has its headquarters. The IAA represents one of the largest mobility trade fairs in the world.

“We believe that electromobility will be the largest growth segment in the automotive industry worldwide, and we aim to be at the forefront,” Zipse added.

BMW CEO expects battery electric vehicles to account for 15% of the company’s global sales by the end of 2023, with further increases in the following years.

Frank Weber, member of BMW’s Board of Management responsible for development, described the Neue Klasse range as a significant technological leap for the automaker.

‘Not afraid at all’ of Chinese EV giants

While acknowledging ongoing challenges from supply chain issues and high inflation, BMW remains positive and raised its annual earnings before interest and taxes margin outlook.

When asked about the presence of Chinese electric vehicle giants at the Munich motor show and the potential impact on BMW’s business, CEO Oliver Zipse stated that he is not worried at all. He sees it as a sign of attractiveness when global players like China, the largest car market in the world, showcase their innovations. Zipse emphasized that the show represents more than just automobiles, but also a technology and innovation exhibition.

“I’m excited about having everyone here – the Americans, Europeans, and now the Chinese. It’s good to have a show that attracts strong competition. That’s super,” Zipse concluded.
