In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy from southern California lost his life after being instructed by his gym teacher to run in extremely hot weather.

Yahshua Robinson, a middle school student from Lake Elsinore, California, attended his gym class on Tuesday wearing inappropriate attire, as reported by NBC Los Angeles. In response, his gym teacher compelled him to run outdoors during sweltering temperatures, according to his fellow students who shared this information with his aunt, Amarna Plummer.

Plummer stated, “He asked the teacher for water, expressing difficulty in breathing. He conveyed this to the other children,” during an interview with the outlet.

The LA Times reported that the Lake Elsinore United School District has confirmed Robinson’s unfortunate passing.

The district issued a statement saying, “In this difficult moment, we are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of our students due to a medical emergency on one of our LEUSD campuses. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and our school community.”

Robinson was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he tragically passed away from cardiac arrest, as mentioned in a GoFundMe page initiated for his family by Plummer.

A spokesperson from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Insider that authorities responded to a medical emergency involving a minor at the middle school on Tuesday morning.

The spokesperson stated, “The minor was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased. The cause of death is still under investigation.”

Although the police have not yet determined the exact cause of Robinson’s demise, Plummer stated that his family believes the excessive heat contributed to his passing. On that day, the temperature in Lake Elsinore soared to 107 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service.
