Emilia Mathias was accused of striking a female CBP officer in the neck on August 22, according to a federal complaint filed on August 24.

Prior to the incident, Mathias was captured on surveillance video dragging her luggage and attempting to enter a secure area at JFK, as stated in the complaint. She was then stopped by two officers who tried to escort her away and redirected her in the opposite direction.

While conversing with the officers, Mathias made a chopping motion with her hand and struck one of the CBP officers in the neck, according to the court document.

Mathias later stated that she was tired after a long flight and was searching for her luggage, according to the federal complaint. She also claimed that she was defending herself and acknowledged that she had done something wrong, as per the court filing.

Mathias was arraigned on Monday and released on $1,000 bail. As part of her release conditions, Mathias must undergo evaluation and treatment for her mental health.
