US Accused by Raimondo of Intentionally Restricting China’s Military Capability through Superconductor Limits

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo emphasized in a recent interview that the United States has no intention of selling its advanced superconductor chips to China for military purposes. Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Raimondo responded to a question about exporting superconductor chips to China in a way that doesn’t hinder their military technology. Instead, Raimondo made it clear that the U.S. aims to limit China’s military capabilities.

Raimondo stated, “We are actively working to restrict their military capacity. If China feels the impact, then it means our strategy is effective. Under my leadership, we will not supply China with the highly advanced American chips they desire for military purposes.”

Raimondo’s recent visit to Beijing aimed to address the escalating tensions between the two nations. She also highlighted the U.S.’s pursuit of establishing a robust semiconductor ecosystem, stating, “By the end of this decade, we will have a thriving semiconductor industry in the U.S., encompassing cutting-edge chip manufacturing and packaging, making us a global leader in this field.”

Prior to her visit, Raimondo also revealed that she had been targeted by Chinese hackers, further highlighting the complex nature of the relationship between the two countries. She candidly addressed this issue during her discussions, along with other concerns related to national security, U.S. labor, and American businesses.
