Ukrainian officials claim Ukrainian naval drone attacked and hit Russian warship

Novorossiysk, a prominent sea port in Russia, was targeted by Ukrainian sea drones on Friday in a significant attack.

The Ukrainian navy claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that it inflicted damage on a Russian naval vessel. However, Russian officials have maintained that they successfully repelled the attack. As a result of the Ukrainian strike, maritime traffic at the port was temporarily halted.

This attack has showcased Ukraine’s ability to target any vessel belonging to the Black Sea Fleet, regardless of the distance, according to Ukrainian military analyst Roman Svytan.

Novorossiysk’s significance stems from its status as a major Russian naval base and its role in crucial industrial operations, including housing an oil terminal. Furthermore, it serves as a vital port for Russian exports.

It is worth noting that this attack occurred after Moscow terminated a grain deal between Russia and Ukraine, which allowed the latter to export grains from its southern ports during wartime. Moreover, this marks the first instance of a Russian commercial port being targeted during the ongoing conflict.
