The incident occurred during a defeat-ISIS mission. MQ-9 drones are unmanned, armed aircraft primarily used for intelligence collection. A video captured the Russian plane approaching and flying past the drone, with only a few meters of separation. The Russian jet dropped flares, one of which struck the drone and damaged its propeller. Fortunately, the drone was able to safely return to its home base. This incident is not the first of its kind, as similar instances have been reported in July.
