Tropical Storm Franklin has the potential to bring heavy rainfall of up to 15 inches to the Caribbean island chains, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

As of Monday night, Franklin was gradually moving through the Caribbean and is projected to make landfall on Hispaniola on Wednesday, potentially bringing dangerous amounts of rain with it. Currently located about 275 miles south of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the storm is expected to strengthen before reaching the southern coast of Hispaniola.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the south coast of the Dominican Republic from the Haiti border to Saona Island, and for the south coast of Haiti from Anse d’Hainault to the Dominican Republic border. Additionally, a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the north and east coast of the Dominican Republic and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Rainfall of up to 6 inches is predicted for Puerto Rico, with the potential for up to 15 inches in the wider region. The storm surge could raise water levels by as much as 3 feet above ground level.
