Three People Killed as Russian Missile Strikes Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine

According to Ukrainian officials, a residential area in Zaporizhzhia, southeastern Ukraine, was hit by a Russian missile, resulting in the death of three people and injury to nine others. The attack occurred in Shevchenkivskyi, the largest district in the city known for its predominantly residential nature. Significant damage was reported, including the destruction of a church building and local shops, as well as shattered windows in high-rise buildings.

The missile struck at approximately 8 p.m. following air-raid warnings throughout Ukraine due to a Ukrainian Air Force alert about a MiG-31K jet taking off from a Russian air base. These jets are equipped with advanced hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, also referred to as Daggers, which are among Russia’s most sophisticated conventional weapons.

The Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning, emphasizing the overall missile threat within the country and urging residents to take the alarms seriously. President Volodymyr Zelensky shared images of the attack on Zaporizhzhia and assured that rescue operations were underway. He also stated that Russia would face consequences for its actions.

Earlier on the same day, a senior adviser to President Zelensky denied Russian allegations that Kyiv attempted a drone attack on the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear complex. In separate incidents related to the ongoing conflict, an 18-year-old individual in the city of Nikopol and a 16-year-old girl in Kherson lost their lives due to shelling attacks.
