UConn guard Paige Bueckers (R) has been cleared to play in the 2023-24 season after missing most of the previous two seasons due to injuries. The news was shared by Bueckers herself, who expressed excitement on Instagram.

Aug. 10 (UPI) — UConn guard Paige Bueckers, who had an outstanding freshman year but suffered significant injuries that kept her off the court for the past two seasons, has received medical clearance to play in the upcoming season. Bueckers took to Instagram on Wednesday night to share the news and expressed her readiness to return to the game.

Bueckers, who was deemed the top high school basketball recruit in the class of 2020, had an incredible freshman season with the Huskies, leading the team in points, assists, steals, and rebounds. Despite her contributions, UConn was upset by Arizona in the Final Four of the 2021 NCAA women’s tournament.

Unfortunately, Bueckers’ journey was plagued by injuries. In the 2021-22 season, she suffered a fracture in her left knee and underwent surgery. She made a speedy recovery and returned to the court within three months. However, in August 2022, she tore her ACL in the same knee during a pickup basketball game, causing her to miss the entire 2022-23 season.

Through her first 46 regular-season appearances for the Huskies, Bueckers averaged impressive statistics in points, assists, rebounds, and steals. However, the team fell short in the 2022 national title game against South Carolina and was eliminated by Ohio State in the Sweet 16 of the 2023 tournament.

While the full schedule for the 2023-24 campaign has yet to be announced, the Huskies are set to face North Carolina State on November 12 in Raleigh, N.C.
