Stop using these highchairs if you own one

Over 85,000 highchairs sold at major retailers in North America are being recalled due to a fall hazard. TOMY International Inc., a toy and nursery product company, is recalling approximately 83,000 Boon Flair and Flair Elite Highchairs sold in the US, along with another 2,850 in Canada. The recall is a result of the bolts securing the highchairs’ seats loosening and allowing the seats to detach. So far, TOMY has received 34 reports of the chair separating from the base, resulting in 11 injuries. These injuries include bruising and scratches.

According to the New York Times, TOMY stated, “We want to ensure that your child has only the safest products we can offer and will work to remedy this situation promptly—with your child’s safety and your trust in mind.” The highchairs under recall were sold at retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, and Amazon. The “Flair” highchairs were sold from 2008 to 2009, while the “Flair Elite” models were sold from 2008 to 2017.

Consumers can identify the recalled highchairs by checking their model number and manufacturing date codes on the TOMY website. All of the recalled highchairs, available in multiple colors, were made in China prior to 2016. If in possession of one of these highchairs, consumers are advised to stop using them immediately. Instead of returning the highchair, customers are encouraged to contact TOMY for a free repair kit consisting of bolts and washers to fix the issue.
