LYON, France, September 3 (Reuters) – Kylian Mbappe showcased his skills by scoring two goals, leading Paris St Germain to a resounding 4-1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais. This win marks PSG’s second triumph in the new Ligue 1 season.

Mbappe made a statement early in the game by converting a penalty in the fourth minute. He then added a fourth goal just before halftime, exemplifying PSG’s dominance. This victory propels PSG to second place in the league with eight points from four games, trailing leaders Monaco by only two points.

The first goal came from a penalty awarded after Manuel Ugarte was fouled by Lyon’s captain, Corentin Tolisso. Achraf Hakimi scored the second goal in the 20th minute, assisted by Ousmane Dembele’s skillful play. Marco Asensio extended the lead to 3-0 in the 38th minute. Finally, Mbappe sealed the emphatic victory with his second goal.

Tolisso managed to score a consolation goal for Lyon from the penalty spot in the second half, but it did little to alleviate their troubles. Lyon only has a single point from their opening four games, raising questions about coach Laurent Blanc’s future with the club.

In other matches, Lille secured a narrow 1-0 home win over Montpellier, thanks to a second-minute free-kick goal by Yusuf Yazici. Nice won their first game of the season with a 2-0 victory against Racing Strasbourg, with Youcef Atal and Terem Moffi finding the back of the net. Le Havre, last season’s Ligue 2 winners, celebrated their first win this season with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Lorient.

Clermont Foot gained their first point of the season in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Toulouse. Captain Florent Ogier redeemed himself for his previous mistake by scoring a late equalizer. Metz and Stade de Reims played to a 2-2 draw, with Cheikh Sabaly and Oumar Diakite finding the net for their respective teams.
