The United Kingdom has experienced a significant increase in diagnoses of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), with the highest number of cases found in boys aged ten to 16, according to a study conducted by University College London (UCL).

ADHD symptoms, such as restlessness, concentration problems, and impulsive behavior, are typically present during childhood. However, they are now being recognized as persisting into adulthood.

The research reveals a significant rise in both ADHD diagnoses and prescriptions for ADHD medication over the past twenty years.

The UCL team reviewed data from seven million individuals ranging in age from three to 99 between 2000 and 2018. Among this group, 35,877 individuals received an ADHD diagnosis, and 18,518 were prescribed ADHD medication by their GPs.
