Israel has officially stated that it is holding Iraq accountable for the well-being and safety of Elizabeth Tsurkov, an Israeli citizen who has been missing for several months. Tsurkov is currently in the custody of a Shi’ite militia. This development was announced by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, and a photo of Tsurkov can be seen on the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy’s website.

July 5 (UPI) — Israel has declared that it holds Iraq responsible for the safety of a kidnapped Israeli citizen who has been missing for several months. Reports indicate that Elizabeth Tsurkov, who holds dual Israeli-Russian citizenship, was traveling on her Russian passport when she was abducted by a Shi’ite militia.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office released a statement confirming Tsurkov’s kidnapping, stating that she was conducting research for her post-doctoral dissertation at Princeton University in Iraq when the incident occurred.

Tsurkov, 36, was reportedly taken captive by the Kataib Hezbollah militia, which is estimated to have around 7,000 members.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office emphasized in its statement that Tsurkov is still alive, and they are holding Iraq accountable for her well-being and safety.

The situation is being handled by the appropriate authorities in Israel, who are deeply concerned about Tsurkov’s security and welfare.

Tsurkov is affiliated with the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy, a prominent think tank based in Washington, D.C. The institute issued a statement confirming that their last contact with Tsurkov was in March before her abduction.

In their statement, the institute expressed their initial intention to publicize Tsurkov’s disappearance but decided against it out of respect for her family’s wishes and the hope that she would be quickly released.

Tsurkov has previously voiced criticism towards the United States, Russia, and Israel.
