The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert regarding a raw beef product that may be contaminated with soft, clear plastic (source). While the product is no longer available for purchase, FSIS wants to ensure that consumers are aware not to consume it.
The affected raw beef product, which was produced on July 25, 2023 and sold in select ALDI grocery stores nationwide, is labeled with the establishment number Est. 85M on the back label.
The following product is subject to the public health alert:
- Approximately 1.5-lb. plastic tray packages containing “USDA CHOICE BLACK ANGUS BEEF FROM ALDI, BEEF FOR CARNE PICADA” with a “Use or Freeze by” date of Aug. 22, 2023, Julian Date 206, and a time stamp between 08:43 and 09:23.
FSIS is concerned that some consumers may still have the contaminated product in their refrigerators or freezers. It is strongly advised not to consume the product and to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase. No reports of injury or illness related to the consumption of this product have been confirmed, but individuals with concerns should consult a healthcare provider.
