Weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelus are significantly more costly in the US compared to other wealthy countries, sometimes up to 10 times more.
According to an analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), a one-month supply of Ozempic, which is used for diabetes treatment but often prescribed off-label for weight loss, has a list price of $936 in the US.
List price refers to the publicly priced cost of the drug set by the manufacturer when selling to wholesalers who then distribute it to pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics.
Although the list price does not necessarily indicate what consumers will pay, patients often have to pay more to compensate for the price set by manufacturers.

Among the other nine countries analyzed by KFF, all of them paid less than $170 for the same amount of the same drug.
Ozempic is available in all 10 countries studied by KFF including the US, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, UK, Australia, and France.
In comparison, it is five times more expensive in the US than in Japan, which has the second-highest list price ($169).
On the other hand, Wegovy, approved for treating diabetes and weight loss, is currently only available in the US, Germany, and the Netherlands.
