North Korea Claims Another Failed Launch of Spy Satellite

North Korea has announced that its second attempt to launch a spy satellite has failed, but they remain determined to make a third attempt in October. According to South Korea’s military, North Korea has launched a long-range rocket. The North’s space agency used the Chollima-1 rocket to put the reconnaissance satellite, Malligyong-1, into orbit. Although the first and second stages of the rocket were normal, the launch failed due to an error in the emergency blasting system during the third-stage flight.

Despite the setback, North Korea’s space agency has stated that it will study what went wrong and make improvements for the next launch attempt. They believe that the cause of the accident is not a major issue in terms of the reliability of their cascade engines and overall system.

Earlier on Thursday, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff detected the rocket flying over international waters off the Korean Peninsula’s west coast, after liftoff from the North’s main space launch center. This is the same site where North Korea’s previous attempt to launch a spy satellite failed in May.

South Korea’s military has responded by strengthening its surveillance posture and cooperating closely with the US. The failed launches and the violation of UN Security Council resolutions have raised tensions between North Korea, South Korea, and the US. The launch also coincided with the start of annual military drills conducted by the US and South Korea, which North Korea sees as an invasion rehearsal.

It remains to be seen whether North Korea will succeed in its third attempt to launch a spy satellite. The international community will be closely monitoring the situation and assessing the implications for regional security.
