  • A recent study suggests that Botox injections in the neck can alleviate symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease
  • The injections, commonly used to smooth out wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles, have also been found to be effective in treating involuntary neck spasms caused by the disease

A recent study has found that Botox injections in the neck can help reduce anxiety in Parkinson’s disease patients.

While Botox is commonly used for cosmetic purposes to smooth out wrinkles and frown lines by relaxing facial muscles, it is also a medical treatment for involuntary neck spasms associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Previously, it was believed that the alleviation of mental health symptoms in Parkinson’s patients following Botox injections was due to reduced worry about their physical condition. However, new research from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago suggests that the treatment may have a direct impact on anxiety levels.

The study involved 60 patients who had received Botox injections for neck spasms caused by cervical dystonia. After six weeks, the frequency and intensity of their spasms were evaluated and compared to pre-injection results.
