Latham Strip Club Enforces Ban on Former NFL Player Dion Lewis

Retired NFL running back Dion Lewis, now serving as a University at Albany football assistant coach, recently found himself in a bit of trouble at Nite Moves Gentlemen’s Club in Latham. On June 11, an altercation occurred that caught the attention of the local police.

According to an incident report, a member of the club’s security staff claimed that Lewis punched him in the side of the head while attempting to escort Lewis out of the establishment. Although the staff member chose not to press charges, he did request that Lewis be barred from returning to the club.

Colonie Police Lt. Daniel J. Belles stated, “Mr. Lewis was verbally informed that he is no longer permitted at the establishment, so if he does return, he may face trespassing charges.”

The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when club staff suspected Lewis of violating club rules by using his phone inside the bar. When asked to leave, Lewis responded by throwing money at the security staff member’s face, who then attempted to physically remove Lewis from the premises. The manager promptly called the police.

Efforts to contact Lewis through his agent, J.R. Rickert, were unsuccessful. Lewis, a former star at Albany High and Albany Academy, played for 10 seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Patriots, Titans, and Giants. He even earned a Super Bowl ring during his time with the New England Patriots.

Nite Moves co-owner Stephen Dick Jr. stated that he was not present at the club that night and was unaware that Lewis was the customer involved in the incident. In a Facebook message, Dick explained, “I had only heard that a few semi-regular customers were there with a group. They managed to sneak in alcohol despite being told it was not allowed. It appears one of them may have been attempting to record the stage, which is why we enforce a no-phones policy on the floor. A floor host approached him and instructed him to leave, but he gave the host a hard time. The customer’s friend may have instigated the situation, leading to the altercation where the customer threw money at the host’s face. They ended up wrestling before being separated.”

Dick clarified that he couldn’t confirm whether any punches were thrown, but one of his employees had sustained a significant scratch on his arm.

“The staff noted that this behavior was highly unusual for these customers,” Dick added.

Lewis, 32, retired from professional football in August 2021. However, just four months later, he faced legal trouble when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Guilderland. At the time, he had recently been appointed as Albany County’s community health wellness coordinator, but he is no longer employed in that role.

In March, Lewis joined UAlbany as an assistant running backs coach. He previously played for the University of Pittsburgh when current UAlbany head coach Greg Gattuso served as an assistant there. Gattuso did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Overall, Lewis’s altercation at Nite Moves Gentlemen’s Club has raised eyebrows as he navigates his post-NFL career.
