Invitation to Three Nations Revoked by Nobel Team

The Nobel Foundation recently made the decision to retract its invitation for representatives of Russia, Belarus, and Iran to attend the Nobel Prize award ceremonies. This controversial decision sparked strong reactions from several Swedish lawmakers, leading them to boycott the ceremonies. Their reasons for boycotting include Russia’s war on Ukraine and the human rights crackdown in Iran. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also expressed his opposition to allowing Russian representatives to attend the ceremonies. The Nobel Foundation acknowledged the strong reactions in Sweden and chose not to invite the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus, and Iran to the award ceremony in Stockholm. However, it will still follow its usual practice and invite all ambassadors to the ceremony in Oslo, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded. The foundation had initially extended invitations to all countries with diplomatic missions in Sweden and Norway to promote the important messages of the Nobel Prize.
