A survey conducted by Ipsos found that working three days in the office is considered the ideal balance by UK office employees. KPMG’s chief people officer, Lisa Fernihough, stated that although the offer of free food did not play a significant role in bringing workers back, the opportunity to collaborate and network with colleagues was the main draw. KPMG has implemented a hybrid working model, with employees working in the office for up to four days in a fortnight. According to Fernihough, working two to three days in the office currently provides the best mix. Andrea Rossi, CEO of M&G, expressed his preference for working in the office and noted that the City feels empty on Fridays. Ipsos’ survey revealed that commuting time and the cost of lunch were factors preventing individuals from returning to the office. The survey also concluded that working three days in the office strikes the right balance, allowing individuals to benefit from office work while maintaining flexibility. Another survey found that 40% of Brits working from home consider themselves unspontaneous and boring, with a decreased tendency to accept social plans. The UK government is planning to issue new guidance to end the culture of working from home in the public sector. Meanwhile, Zoom and Amazon have implemented return-to-office policies, and civil servants and council staff face potential restrictions on working remotely.
