In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, Hillary Clinton criticized some members of the GOP for using impeachment as a political weapon. Clinton argued that they were intentionally fabricating baseless claims to keep their base energized.
She stated, “There’s no there there. They know there’s no there there, and sadly the Speaker of the House is too weak to stand up to the most rabid block of his members who don’t care about the truth or the facts.”
Clinton further accused Republicans of grandstanding and trying to cause problems for President Biden. She dismissed the impeachment proceedings as a mere attempt to create political obstacles rather than a genuine threat to the president.
Earlier this month, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy unilaterally directed House committees to open an impeachment inquiry, giving in to the demands of the hard-right faction within his party. McCarthy claimed that Republicans had uncovered “serious and credible allegations” involving payments made by foreign nationals to Hunter Biden, the president’s son, during Joe Biden’s vice presidency.
However, McCarthy has faced difficulty in controlling the dissenting members of his party, especially with a looming government shutdown that has put his leadership at stake.
Clinton commented on the situation, stating, “It’s a real confession by the Republican Party, they have no agenda, they have no interest in trying to bring people together to solve problems. They don’t want a solution to what’s happening on the border, they want a political problem that they can try to use for their own benefit. That’s what this is.”
