Authorities are currently carrying out an extensive search for an unidentified man who senselessly stabbed a 23-year-old passenger on a Metro B (Red) Line train, resulting in his tragic death in downtown Los Angeles.
The incident took place at around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, when the suspect approached the victim, Jesse Rodriguez, suddenly producing a knife and viciously stabbing him in the chest without any warning or provocation, as stated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Rapid response from officers of the Transit Services Division at Pershing Square Station ensured immediate medical assistance to Rodriguez until paramedics arrived. Sadly, Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital, according to LAPD Officer Tony Im who spoke with City News Service.
Fleeing on foot, the suspect was last seen ascending the stairs from the underground station, as confirmed by authorities.
In an effort to gather information about the suspect’s identity and location, the police released a surveillance photo of the assailant on Friday, with the hope of receiving valuable tips from the public. The suspect is described as approximately 6-feet-2 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds, and sporting black hair, as well as a mustache and goatee.
At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black wave cap, a black long-sleeve shirt, dark-colored pants, black shoes, and carrying a black Puma backpack, as stated by the police.
