Grocery worker receives two-year prison sentence for distributing semen-tainted yogurt samples

A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for contaminating food with semen.
Anthony Garcia, while working at a grocery store in Albuquerque, New Mexico, admitted to adding a sample of semen to a container of yogurt. He then offered the tainted yogurt to a female customer.
The customer immediately spat out the sample after tasting it and reported the incident to the store’s manager. Garcia disposed of the yogurt sample in the store’s trash compactor.
Garcia pleaded guilty to charges of food adulteration and making false statements during a criminal investigation. He lied to investigators by claiming he didn’t know the spoon he used contained semen.
The incident occurred in January of last year. In addition to his prison sentence, Garcia will be on supervised release for three years.
He was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim. The investigation revealed that Garcia targeted at least four other women in a similar manner.

US Attorney Gonzales emphasized the seriousness of this crime, stating that it is not a joke or funny. He warned that deliberate food adulteration for harmful purposes, pranks, or deviant sexual gratification would be prosecuted.
Patrick J. Holland, Special Agent in Charge of the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations, commended the sentencing, highlighting the importance of protecting unsuspecting consumers from food adulteration.
