Russian General Sergei Surovikin, who was last seen in public in June during the Wagner Mercenary Group’s failed mutiny against the Russian Ministry of Defense, has now made a noteworthy appearance in a photograph. The photo, posted on social media by Ksenia Sobchak, a Russian media personality, features a man resembling Surovikin standing alongside a red-haired woman resembling his wife Anna.

“General Sergei Surovikin is out. Alive, healthy, at home, with his family, in Moscow,” Sobchak confirmed.

The news of Surovikin’s reappearance was further affirmed by Russian journalist Alexei Venediktov, who stated on Telegram, “General Surovikin is at home with his family,” as reported by NBC News, BBC, and The New York Times.

Previously serving as the commander of Russian forces in Ukraine, Surovikin has faced speculation regarding his association with the Wagner Mercenary Group. Some media reports have even suggested that he was a member of the organization.

His last appearance in June featured a video in which he urged Wagner mercenaries to abandon their mutiny. The circumstances surrounding the video raised suspicions that it was filmed under duress.

Following the failed mutiny, conflicting reports emerged, suggesting that Surovikin had been arrested. However, his daughter denied these reports, asserting that he had not been detained.

In August, Russian state-backed news announced that Surovikin had been relieved of his post. According to RIA Novosti, he was “on a short vacation” and had been “transferred to another job.”

When questioned about Surovikin’s status during a press briefing, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov refused to comment on whether he was under investigation or not.
