Fearful B.C. Man: Why His Children in Gaza Feel Scared Amidst Ongoing Shouting

A man from British Columbia is filled with fear for the well-being of his two children, who are currently trapped in Gaza, along with the rest of their family. Mohammad Fayad migrated to Canada in 2022 with the hope that his 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son would be able to join him soon.

However, Fayad hasn’t heard from his children in approximately 48 hours and he’s growing increasingly concerned. He doesn’t even know if they have access to electricity or battery power for their phones.

According to Julie Sunday, assistant deputy minister for consular, security, and emergency management at Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the Canadian Armed Forces have evacuated almost 430 individuals from Israel, with two additional flights scheduled for Saturday. There are currently over 6,500 Canadians registered with Global Affairs in Israel, along with 485 Canadians in the West Bank and Gaza.

Fayad is desperately hopeful that his children will soon be on one of the evacuation flights. However, the last time he communicated with them, they were scared and didn’t know what to do. They kept asking for his help, but he feels powerless to assist them.

Fayad reveals that his children were already living in a difficult situation even before Hamas’ attack on Israel. They lacked access to education and were unable to attend school. He also heard that people were moving from the north of Gaza to the south.

“Above all, I just want people to be safe,” says Fayad. “Everyone should be safe and free from this kind of conflict, especially innocent civilians who are stuck there.”
