Exciting Rescue: American Church Tour Group Safely Evacuated from Israel with Heroic Assistance from Benghazi Brave

Dozens of U.S. Christians belonging to a church group from North Dakota were successfully evacuated from Israel after finding themselves trapped in Bethlehem during a sudden outbreak of war, according to leaders. The group of around 84 people had been on a trip to Israel when Hamas launched a surprise attack, prompting Israel to declare war. They attempted to visit Jesus’ baptism site but were turned away due to closures, and later learned of the fighting. Uncertain of what to do, the church leaders reached out to the State Department, the U.S. Embassy, and North Dakota government officials for help. Mark “Oz” Geist, the Marine Corps veteran known for his heroism during the 2012 Benghazi attack, assisted the group by providing reliable information about the situation. After their flight out of Tel Aviv was canceled, the group decided to head to the border with Jordan, where they were able to board flights back to the U.S. Despite frustrations with the process, government officials assured that the safety of U.S. citizens overseas is a top priority.
