Doctor Severed Baby’s Head During Delivery

A Georgia woman has filed a lawsuit against a hospital and its staff, claiming that her baby was decapitated during delivery, causing her significant mental and physical trauma. The incident occurred in July at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale. The woman, Jessica Ross, visited the hospital for a vaginal delivery, but her condition, known as shoulder dystocia, complicated the process. Shoulder dystocia occurs when one or both of the baby’s shoulders become stuck, and it is not possible to predict or prevent it. (Source: FOX 5 Atlanta)

According to the lawsuit, Dr. Tracey St. Julian attempted various methods to achieve a vaginal delivery, including applying traction to the baby’s head. Ross requested a C-section, but it was denied, and three hours passed before the doctor finally ordered one. At that time, no heartbeat was detected by the fetal monitor. The lawsuit alleges that the baby’s body and legs were delivered at 12:11am, while the head was delivered vaginally. The family only became aware of the decapitation when the funeral home informed them. They claim that St. Julian did not disclose the information and that they were pressured to opt for cremation instead of a free autopsy. (Source: The Associated Press)

Additional allegations made by the family’s representative state that the hospital staff denied Ross and the father the opportunity to touch or hold their child. They were only allowed to view the baby, who was wrapped tightly in a blanket with his head propped on top of his body, making the decapitation difficult to detect. (Source: CNN)

The lawsuit claims that the doctor’s actions, including applying excessive traction and failing to perform a cesarean section in a timely manner, were negligent and resulted in the decapitation and death of the baby. The hospital denies these allegations. The autopsy results for the child, named Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr., are pending. The Clayton County Police Department is also conducting an investigation.
