Doctor Confirms Mitch McConnell Does Not Have Signs of Stroke or Seizures in Brain Scans

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has received brain scans that confirm he does not have a seizure disorder or have experienced a stroke following his recent episodes of freezing up while speaking in public. Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician for Congress, has confirmed in a letter to McConnell that there is no evidence of a movement disorder like Parkinson’s disease. The doctor also stated that there are no changes recommended in treatment protocols as McConnell continues to recover from his fall in March 2023. McConnell had been hospitalized after suffering a concussion from a fall at a hotel during a private dinner in Washington, D.C.

During a press conference and while speaking to reporters, McConnell experienced two episodes of freezing up, during which he stood silently for approximately 30 seconds. However, the latest examination by Dr. Monahan after the second episode revealed no cause for concern. The comprehensive neurology assessment included brain MRI imaging, EEG study, and consultations with several neurologists.

Furthermore, Dr. Monahan ruled out the possibility of McConnell having a transient ischemic attack, which is a stroke that lasts only a few minutes, according to the National Institutes of Health. The Senate Minority Leader’s occasional lightheadedness is attributed to his concussion recovery and dehydration, but it does not hinder his ability to continue with his scheduled activities.

Mitch McConnell can now proceed confidently with his political responsibilities, assured that his recent episodes were not indicative of any serious underlying health issues.
