(NewsNation) — As we head into the fall season, COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise. While free testing options have become less widespread, there are still opportunities for low-cost or even no-cost tests available.
The government’s mailing program for free tests through COVIDtests.gov has been suspended and is no longer accepting new orders as of June 1.
Fortunately, there are still around 10,000 Increasing Community Access to Testing (ICATT) sites where free testing is available for individuals without health insurance.
You can also find other community-based testing sites listed on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
Health centers offer free or low-cost COVID-19 tests to individuals who meet specific criteria, and they may provide sliding fee discounts based on income and family size.
Some insurance plans still offer reimbursement for testing, as reported by CBS. Additionally, previously expired tests may still be usable, and the expiration date for at-home COVID-19 diagnostic tests may have been extended based on new data.
