Cyberattack Targets Hospital Computer Systems Across Several States

A cyberattack on Thursday has led to disruptions in hospitals and clinics in five states, with some emergency rooms being forced to close.

The cyberattack targeted facilities operated by Prospect Medical Holdings, affecting their facilities in California, Texas, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Upon discovering the attack, Prospect Medical Holdings immediately took their systems offline to protect them and initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts. The company released a statement on Friday, stating, “While our investigation is ongoing, our priority is to address the urgent needs of our patients and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.”

The impact of the cyberattack extends beyond the closure of emergency rooms to include the unavailability of certain primary care services and diversions of ambulance services.
