Councils declare single-use vapes should be prohibited

How much nicotine does an e-cigarette contain?

E-cigarettes come in various brands with different nicotine levels.

In the UK, the legal nicotine amount in e-liquid is 20mg/ml, which is equivalent to approximately 600 to 800 puffs.

The Elf Bar 600, one of the popular vapes in Britain, offers nicotine strengths of 0mg, 10mg, and 20mg.

How many cigarettes does an e-cigarette represent?

Analysts claim that the Elf Bar 600 is equivalent to 48 cigarettes.

It provides 600 puffs before disposal, which means that approximately every 12.5 puffs can be considered similar to smoking one cigarette.

Experts suggest that for many e-cigarettes, 100 puffs are equivalent to ten regular cigarettes.

Elf Bars are a brand of e-cigarettes often sold in vibrant colors and with catchy names and flavors, such as blue razz lemonade and green gummy bear.

Is vaping healthier than smoking cigarettes?

According to the NHS, vaping products are considered better than traditional cigarettes as they expose users to fewer toxins at lower levels.

The NHS also states that switching to vaping reduces the exposure to toxins that can lead to cancer, lung disease, and heart-related conditions like strokes and heart attacks.

A 2015 independent review published by the now-defunct Public Health England concluded that e-cigarettes are approximately 95% less harmful than cigarettes.

However, vaping is not entirely risk-free, as e-cigarettes still contain harmful toxins, although in lower amounts compared to tobacco products, according to a study conducted by researchers from the Medical University of Silesia in Poland.

Dr. Onkar Mudhar, a London dentist known for his TikTok videos, warns that Elf Bars can cause gum inflammation, swelling, and bleeding.

This is attributed to the drying effect of nicotine on the mouth, reducing saliva production and leading to irritation from the buildup of bacteria and food particles.

In England, there were nearly 350 hospitalizations related to vaping in 2022, primarily associated with respiratory issues such as shortness of breath, chest pain, lung inflammation, and, in severe cases, respiratory failure.
