Chef Refers to Fatal Mushroom Meal as an Unfortunate Mishap

The woman involved in the incident where a meal cooked with mushrooms resulted in three deaths and one near-fatality has provided her statement to the police. Australia’s Erin Patterson, in her statement to the police reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, claims that the tragedy was a horrific accident and that she had no intention to harm the people she loved. Initially refusing to cooperate, Patterson now reveals that she purchased the dried mushrooms from an Asian supermarket and also suffered from suspected food poisoning after consuming the meal. The police suspect that the poisonous “death cap” mushrooms were ingested by the lunch guests.

She expressed deep regret for not answering certain questions earlier, following the advice of her lawyer, as she now realizes the nightmare that has unfolded as a result of her silence. The parents of her estranged husband, as well as her mother-in-law’s sister, died after consuming the meal. However, her sister’s husband survived but required a liver transplant. Patterson clarified that her children, who were present during the meal, did not eat the adults’ portion. Furthermore, she confessed to lying about a food dehydrator that was seized by investigators from a landfill. Initially claiming that she had disposed of it long ago, she now admits to panicking and getting rid of it shortly after the deaths when her estranged husband accused her of poisoning his parents.
