National: Mark Zuckerberg dismisses Elon Musk’s intentions for cage fight as not genuine

Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk’s proposed “cage match” seems unlikely to happen anytime soon. The rivalry between Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) and Zuckerberg’s new app Threads has generated online buzz and anticipation for a showdown between the billionaires. However, the Meta CEO recently expressed doubt about Musk’s seriousness in pursuing the mixed martial arts (MMA) fight. Zuckerberg stated on Threads that it’s time to move on, as Elon isn’t taking the proposal seriously.

According to Zuckerberg, he offered Musk a genuine date for the fight and Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), even offered to make it a legitimate competition for charity. However, Musk has been unresponsive to confirming a date, claiming he may need surgery for his back before the fight can take place. Musk then suggested doing a practice round in Zuckerberg’s backyard instead. Zuckerberg, in response, stated that he will focus on competing with individuals who take the sport seriously.

Zuckerberg, who is a jiu-jitsu enthusiast, already competes against serious MMA opponents and recently obtained his blue belt in the sport. Musk has yet to respond to Zuckerberg’s comments. However, Musk did mention that the fight would potentially take place in Rome, Italy, after speaking with the country’s prime minister and minister of culture. He also shared a text allegedly from Zuckerberg, suggesting that Musk should train on his own and inform Zuckerberg when he is ready to fight.

It appears that the battleground for Musk and Zuckerberg may end up being the courtroom instead. Twitter sent a cease-and-desist letter last month, claiming that Threads is an unlawful misappropriation of their trade secrets and intellectual property.
