Breaking: Sen. Stabenow Diagnosed with COVID-19 in Recent Test

Senator Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat representing Michigan, revealed on Thursday that she has tested positive for COVID-19. Despite experiencing mild symptoms, she plans to isolate and work remotely, following CDC guidelines.

Earlier today, Stabenow was working in the Capitol building. Her announcement adds to the growing list of COVID-positive cases among Congress members during the recent surge in infections.

Senator Tina Smith, a Democrat from Minnesota, announced on Tuesday that she also tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently experiencing mild symptoms. Smith has decided to stay in her home state, adhering to the guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Representative Cori Bush, a Democrat from Missouri, shared on Wednesday that she tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently experiencing symptoms. Although unable to participate in-person for legislative business, Bush is working remotely to continue serving St. Louis. She referred to the looming threat of a government shutdown, caused by GOP instigation and the urgent need for Congress to pass a continuing resolution to extend funding into the next fiscal year. The deadline for this resolution is in two days, at the end of the month.

Recent data from the CDC indicates a 16% increase in COVID-related hospitalizations and an 18% increase in COVID-related deaths from mid to late August. Although wastewater analyses suggest a slight decrease in COVID rates overall, experts express concerns for the upcoming fall and winter months. Slow progress in updating vaccinations among Americans is contributing to these concerns.
