The protagonist of the HBO docuseries “Telemarketers” — which depicted the tumultuous journey of a call center in New Jersey — mysteriously disappeared on Friday night and has not been seen or heard from since.
Patrick J. Pespas, a cunning salesman with a history of substance abuse, went missing from his residence in Easton, Pennsylvania, where he was last spotted around 8 p.m., as stated by the directors of the mini-documentary series.
“Pat is missing, and [his wife] Sue, his family, and friends are extremely concerned about his welfare,” co-director Adam Bhala Lough stated in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Please spread the word about Pat’s disappearance and help us locate him.”
Pespas, 55, and co-director Sam Lipman-Stern were former telemarketers who decided to investigate the call center in New Jersey where they were employed, as well as the entire telemarketing industry, after discovering allegations that their employer, Civic Development Group, was embezzling donations intended for various organizations.
Lipman-Stern began documenting their inquiry, and together with Bhala Lough, they transformed two decades’ worth of footage into a three-part series that premiered on HBO in August.
Pespas was last seen driving his white Ford Mustang and is believed to be somewhere in New Jersey, according to Bhala Lough.
Bhala Lough shared pictures of the vehicle and a recent photo of Pespas on X, urging residents in the area to be vigilant and providing the email address [email protected] for any tips or leads.
Pespas has battled with heroin addiction in the past, but he claimed to have conquered it in the latter part of the docuseries. However, he relies on methadone to cope with his previous addiction, according to his wife.
There have been unconfirmed reports that the documentary’s subject was spotted at a bar in Pittsburgh on Saturday night, according to an anonymous source, as mentioned in Bhala Lough’s recent update on Sunday evening.
