Biden emphasized, “China is a ticking time bomb in many cases,” acknowledging the concerns surrounding the nation. He warned that when bad actors encounter problems, they tend to engage in nefarious activities.
While the president’s remarks may add strain to the already tense relationship between the United States and China, it is worth noting that U.S. officials have been actively engaging with Beijing in recent weeks.
In a separate development, Biden recently issued an executive order that restricts certain U.S. investments in Chinese technology sectors, citing potential risks to the military and intelligence programs of Beijing.
This is not the first occasion where President Biden has candidly discussed China during political fundraisers. Back in July, while attending a fundraiser in California, he referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “dictator.” Biden also highlighted how the Chinese leader reacted when a Chinese spy balloon was shot down near the coast of the United States earlier in the year, stating that it was an embarrassment for dictators who are left clueless.
