BENEFICIAL INSIGHTS: Embrace Affordable Sunscreen for Optimal Health

Discover the Benefits of Affordable Supermarket Sunscreen

Save money on sunscreen while still getting the protection you need. Recent research suggests that supermarket own-brand sunscreen is just as effective as expensive alternatives.

Review website Which? conducted a study on the efficacy of 12 SPF30 products. Each cream was applied to a patch of skin and exposed to ultraviolet light.

The team monitored how long it took for the skin to turn red, both with and without the sunscreen, to determine which product provided the longest-lasting protection.

The top-performing product on the list was the Asda Protect Moisturising Sun Lotion, priced at £3 for a 200ml bottle. Surprisingly, the most expensive cream, Ultrasun’s £22 bottle, offered no additional benefits compared to the Asda brand and was equally easy to apply.

Meditation for Pain Relief

A non-drug intervention involving meditation and posture training has been found to alleviate severe pain.

Researchers from the University of Warwick conducted a study involving 300 patients on addictive painkillers called opioids. Participants took part in a two-month stress management, posture advice, and mindfulness meditation program.

After a year, one-third of the non-drug group had stopped medication and reported no worsening of pain severity, compared to less than one in ten of those not on the course. Prof Sam Eldabe, a pain expert, commented, ‘Our study shows opioids can be stopped without any actual worsening of the pain.’

Nearly half of all drug poisoning deaths registered in 2021 involved opioids.

Swallowable Camera for Stomach Cancer Detection

Scientists in the US have developed a small capsule with a recording device that can examine stomach tissue for signs of disease. Unlike previous models, this device can be manipulated by a doctor within the stomach using a magnet and joystick system.

According to Dr. Andrew Meltzer from George Washington University, the capsule could potentially replace invasive endoscopies and serve as a quick and easy screening method for ulcers or stomach cancer.
