Amazon plane crash of 2021 linked to previous similar incident

According to records, the small plane that crash-landed in the Colombian Amazon and resulted in the tragic death of three adults and the survival of four young children had previously experienced another accident less than two years before the incident.

During a flight in July 2021, the aircraft, a Cessna 206 with tail number HK 2803, serving as an air ambulance, encountered a strong smell of burning oil. The pilot attempted an emergency landing but lost control, leading to a crash in the jungle.

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority’s report on the incident concluded that the plane had suffered substantial damage, but the passengers, including the pilot, doctor, and patient, survived.

Aviation officials state that even significantly damaged aircraft can be rebuilt and deemed airworthy for continued operation if properly maintained. The repaired HK 2803, owned by Avianline Charters of Colombia, resumed service as an air taxi.
