Alberta commits $4M towards establishing an office dedicated to combating human trafficking

The government of Alberta is collaborating with community groups and allocating $4 million over two years to establish an office dedicated to combating human trafficking.

Mike Ellis, the Minister of Public Safety, states that the purpose of the office is to provide support to trafficking victims and raise public awareness about this issue.

The initiative covers various forms of human trafficking, including sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and organ trafficking.

According to the province, more than 3,500 cases of human trafficking have been reported across Canada in the past decade.

The majority of victims are women and girls, with one-quarter of them being under the age of 18.

It is emphasized that Indigenous women and girls are particularly affected by this issue.
