Zelensky dismisses heads of military recruitment centers amid corruption allegations

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, took a bold step on Friday by dismissing numerous heads of Ukraine’s regional military recruitment centers due to serious allegations of corruption.

According to Zelensky’s nightly address to the nation, there are currently 112 criminal proceedings against 33 suspects involved in corruption.

Zelensky stated, “Some took cash, some took cryptocurrency – that’s the only difference. The cynicism is the same everywhere.”

He further added, “Illicit enrichment, legalization of illegally obtained funds, illegal benefits, illegal transportation of individuals with military obligations across the border… We are relieving all regional ‘military commissars.’ This system should be overseen by individuals who possess a deep understanding of war and why cynicism and bribery during such times amount to treason.”

Zelensky’s firm decision to dismiss these individuals aims to eradicate corruption within the military. To fill these vacant positions, Ukrainian soldiers who were previously wounded in battle will be appointed immediately.

He emphasized, “The Security Service of Ukraine will rigorously vet the new heads of territorial recruitment centers prior to their appointment.”

“Every ‘military commissar’ under criminal investigation will face consequences and be held accountable. We guarantee absolute fairness,” assured the Ukrainian president.

Zelensky’s actions come at a time when he faces mounting pressure to combat corruption in Ukraine’s government. It is crucial for him to maintain support from the United States and other allies who have generously provided over $165 billion in military, financial, and reconstruction assistance.
