Woman Killed as American Pushes Two Tourists Down Slope at German Castle

An American man was apprehended in southern Germany for his involvement in the death of one U.S. tourist and an assault on another near Neuschwanstein castle. The incident took place near the Marienbruecke on Wednesday afternoon, a famous bridge over a gorge close to the castle that offers a stunning view. According to police, the 30-year-old suspect met the two female tourists, ages 21 and 22, on a hiking path and convinced them to follow him onto a trail leading to a viewpoint. The younger woman was attacked by the suspect, and when the older woman rushed to help, she was choked and pushed down a slope. The assailant then tried to sexually assault the 21-year-old before pushing her down the slope as well. Both women were rescued by a mountain rescue team, with the 22-year-old being taken to the hospital and the 21-year-old succumbing to her injuries overnight. The suspect was apprehended near the scene shortly after leaving. A witness who recorded the arrest stated that the man had scratches on his face and remained silent during the arrest. The witness also expressed astonishment that the victims survived the fall from the steep slope. Neuschwanstein castle, located in southern Bavaria, is a popular tourist attraction known as one of King Ludwig II’s famous 19th-century castles. The suspect, an American tourist, is under investigation for murder, attempted murder, and a sexual offense, and a judge has ordered him to be held in jail pending a potential indictment. Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward to help reconstruct the events.
