WMO Adviser Forecasts Persistent Heatwaves to Persist Throughout August

According to an extreme heat advisor, heatwaves are expected to persist in many parts of the world throughout the month of August. This comes after recent record-breaking temperatures.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has stated that temperatures in North America, Asia, North Africa, and the Mediterranean are projected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) for an extended period of time as the heatwave intensifies. “We should expect or at least plan for these extreme heatwaves to continue through August,” said John Nairn, Senior Extreme Heat Advisor for the WMO.

Nairn stated that climate change will result in more frequent and widespread heatwaves throughout the seasons.
