Windham Mountain’s Cave Mountain Music Festival Unfortunately Canceled

The Cave Mountain Music Festival at Windham Mountain in the Catskills has unfortunately been canceled, according to organizers. The highly anticipated two-day festival, scheduled to start on September 15th, was set to feature headliners Weezer, alt-rock/grunge outfit Dinosaur Jr., jam band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, soul singer Lee Fields, and other talented acts.

The decision to cancel the festival was made due to construction and renovations taking place at Windham Resort. The festival’s organizers, Brooklyn Made Presents, released a statement explaining that the new ownership and extensive renovations made it impossible to proceed with the event as planned. They reassured ticket holders that full refunds would be issued through their original payment method.

Bob McLynn, manager of Weezer and other acts through Crush Music, expressed disappointment at the cancellation. He had expected a couple of thousand fans to attend the “boutique” festival each day, which was supposed to be the first of many annual festivals.

Despite initial optimism, the festival organizers, Brooklyn Made Presents, have no current plans to reschedule the event at Windham. Stefanie May, a spokesperson for the company, confirmed that they were on track to sell 3,000 tickets per day before the cancellation notice was given.

Windham Mountain issued their own statement explaining that unavoidable circumstances related to ongoing construction and improvement projects at the venue led to the festival’s cancellation. After careful consideration, the partners involved concluded that proceeding with the festival as planned would have compromised the overall quality and guest experience. They were unwilling to settle for a subpar event for both concertgoers and artists.

In late April, Windham Mountain announced that two hospitality groups, the Beall family (founders of Ruby Tuesday) and Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners, were investing in the resort. The aim of these partnerships was to transform Windham Mountain from primarily a skiing destination into a year-round attraction. The planned improvements include reducing lift lines, new townhouses and land development, enhanced membership offerings, expansion of the golf course, and improved amenities such as swimming, racket sports, family activities, and all-season adventures. Windham also mentioned that their food and beverage programs would undergo redevelopment.

There is currently no expected completion date for the improvements, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Windham Mountain.
