Will Smith Discusses Oscars Incident and Shares Insight with Trevor Noah: “Hurt People Hurt People”

Will Smith recently spoke to Trevor Noah on “The Daily Show” about the incident at the Oscars where he slapped presenter Chris Rock. During the interview, Smith described the night as “horrific” and admitted that he “lost it” when he stormed the stage. Reflecting on his behavior, Smith acknowledged that he was going through something and that it didn’t justify his actions. He expressed regret over the fact that his actions made it difficult for others. Smith also opened up about the rage that had been bottled up inside him for a long time. Trevor Noah highlighted Smith’s fear of conflict and the negativity directed towards him and his family on the internet. In response, Smith attributed his reactions to his childhood experiences, including witnessing his father’s violence towards his mother. He emphasized that the person he was in that moment is not who he aspires to be. In July, Smith publicly apologized for the slap on social media. As a consequence, the Academy has banned him from attending the Oscars for the next 10 years.
