During a recent interview amid the election turmoil, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) delivered a series of bizarre remarks. As it became evident that Tuesday’s election results would have a negative impact on Republicans and conservative causes, Santorum shared some peculiar takes in quick succession.
“You put very sexy things like abortion and marijuana on the ballot, and a lot of young people come out and vote,” he griped on Newsmax.
Both issues were on the ballot in Ohio. Despite the state’s usual tilt toward the GOP, voters passed measures on Tuesday protecting reproductive rights and legalizing recreational marijuana.
Santorum, who was fired as a CNN pundit in 2021 after making wildly racist comments about Native Americans, referred to these two issues as “a secret sauce for disaster” for Republicans in the state.
He then took it a step further by stating, “Thank goodness that most of the states in this country don’t allow you to put everything on the ballot because pure democracies are not the way to run a country.”
These comments sparked a trend of Santorum’s name on social media, as critics weighed in on his controversial remarks.
