Why Euphoria Star Jacob Elordi Passed on a Superman Audition: ‘That’s Too Dark for Me’

Jacob Elordi, known for his role in Euphoria, recently disclosed that he turned down an audition for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy because he felt it was “too dark” for his liking.

In an exclusive interview with GQ Magazine UK, the 26-year-old actor from Australia shared that he isn’t particularly interested in starring in superhero films, despite being a fan of Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, who portrayed iconic characters in Christopher Nolan’s 2008 crime drama, The Dark Knight. Elordi mentioned that when he was approached for a Superman audition, he immediately declined the offer.

Elordi humorously pointed out the irony in his decision, given that he has previously taken on darker roles, portraying abusive and troubled characters in Euphoria, Saltburn, and Sofia Coppola’s rendition of Priscilla.

In elaborating on his inclinations, Elordi explained, “I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’ And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”

Earlier this year, Gunn announced Superman: Legacy as part of his and Peter Safran’s upcoming DCU revamp. The film is set to premiere on July 11, 2025, with David Corenswet portraying Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
