Why Democrats are Urging Funding for a Progressive Vision: The GOP’s Critical Response Needed

You can now listen to Fox News articles! It’s time to discuss the next battle over government funding and have an honest conversation. The unchecked growth of the executive branch under President Joe Biden is harmful to all Americans and must be restrained. The solution to this problem, a liberty-stripping big government, has remained the same since the inception of our constitutional republic. The Biden administration cannot create more chaos or allow Bidenomics to become the new norm without taxpayer dollars, and Congress has the power to control that. This is the perfect opportunity for the legislative branch to step up and show their power.

Predictably, the Washington establishment has refused to return to pre-COVID-19 spending levels. Throughout history, relinquishing power and shrinking the government has proved to be nearly impossible. President Ronald Reagan was absolutely correct when he said, “no government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.” Today’s leaders should consider Reagan’s wisdom before it’s too late. The American people are fed up with mindless spending and poor decision-making; it’s time for a different approach. Unfortunately, all this excessive spending has given hardworking American taxpayers very little in return. Sadly, the federal government has never been more broken.

In 2022, Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives by promising to govern differently. They vowed to end the dysfunction and abuse that Nancy Pelosi’s tenure had become synonymous with. They made promises of reform, fiscal responsibility, transparency, accountability, and passing appropriations bills on time. While some of these promises have been fulfilled, others have been neglected. Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his leadership team have an opportunity to make a lasting impact with their next moves.

There is still time for Congress to pass several appropriations bills before the September 30 deadline. They must take charge and decide whether taking a long summer recess was the right choice under these circumstances. The House Republican conference should work late nights and weekends to ensure the spending bills are completed on time. Continually kicking the can down the road with continuing resolutions is not the answer. America put men on the moon six times in three years; surely, we can pass 12 spending bills in 30 days.

This year’s government funding debate has one significant difference—the disgraceful multi-trillion dollar omnibus bill passed by Pelosi’s Congress in December 2022 is still fresh in people’s minds. Frankly, the American people would be better served by a constructive government shutdown than another massive spending bill that no one reads or debates before disappearing for the holidays. In exchange for avoiding a government shutdown, Washington politicians have given us a woke Pentagon, an open border, a fentanyl crisis, critical race theory, illegal student loan forgiveness programs, weaponized law enforcement agencies, and prolonged inflation.

Since Biden signed the so-called Fiscal Responsibility Act into law just 90 days ago, the national debt has already increased by $1 trillion to a staggering $32.8 trillion. And in comparison to this time last year, the federal budget deficit has increased by $882 billion. The title of this bill, like the Inflation Reduction Act, is incredibly misleading. During Biden’s reign, Washington is up to its old tricks, and the American people are not amused. Career Washington politicians are once again telling us to fund their socialist utopia or face the consequences. It’s time to call their bluff and stand up for fiscal sanity, conservative principles, and liberty.
