If one is mixing chemicals, getting the formula wrong can produce disastrous results.

International diplomacy works in much the same way. For years, the left made the wrong assessments about the Soviet Union and China, mistakenly believing that the actions of the United States could influence communist dictators who consistently oppressed and executed their opponents. While the Soviet Union no longer exists, Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to follow the oppressive traditions of his predecessors, with Mikhail Gorbachev being a potentially milder version.

The Biden administration is once again utilizing an incorrect formula in the Middle East. During a recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed that Israel would have to make major concessions to the Palestinians for a deal brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia to succeed. Many believe that if Donald Trump had been re-elected, such a deal would have been made, as Riyadh seeks to strengthen its defenses against the perceived threat from Iran. The Abraham Accords were a significant driving force behind Saudi Arabia’s potential shift towards peace with Israel.

However, with Secretary Blinken now reverting to an old and failed formula previously endorsed by President Barack Obama and others, the Saudis seem to believe that they can appease their fellow Arabs by pressuring Israel into making additional concessions. This approach ignores the fact that past concessions have failed to change the Palestinian leaders’ unwavering desire not only for their own state, but for the elimination of the Jewish state.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia is considering obtaining a nuclear plant from China. The United States had conditioned its assistance with nuclear power on the Saudis’ commitment not to enrich their own uranium or exploit their uranium deposits.

Will we ever learn that you can’t bargain with evil, or evil ultimately wins because it knows no constraints?

We have already seen the consequences of such an approach in the case of Iran, which appears to be nearing the production of nuclear weapons despite numerous American concessions to the religious fundamentalists in power. It should come as no surprise that China’s offer of a nuclear plant comes with no conditions attached.

Furthermore, we must not forget the allegations made by the relatives of the nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack. They firmly believe that Saudi Arabia played a significant role in the attack, and no proper investigation into that involvement has ever been conducted. The pursuit of oil has often been cited as the primary reason for the lack of a thorough investigation, so that Saudi Arabia can continue its oil production without facing higher prices.

Will we ever learn that you can’t bargain with evil, as it will ultimately prevail due to its lack of constraints?

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken speaks

In his autobiography, “Bibi,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recounts a meeting he had with then-Vice President Joe Biden, during which Biden said, “You don’t have many friends here, buddy. I’m the one friend you do have. So call me when you need to.” However, true friends do not lead their friends into danger, as the current administration appears willing to do.

Following that meeting, Netanyahu spoke at Bar-Ilan University and emphasized that successful negotiations with the Palestinian leadership would require two things: “a public, genuine and binding Palestinian recognition of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people” and “demilitarization of the Palestinian territories with solid security arrangements for Israel.”

To this day, the Palestinian leadership has not agreed to either condition, making it difficult to understand why Secretary Blinken believes that an old and potentially explosive formula would work now when it has already failed in the past.
